(LTAS) High-Level Uzbek Government Delegation In Washington, D. C. to Attend Legal Technical Assistance Services Program Funded by U.S. AID on International Trade and Foreign Investment
Washington, DC -- December 2, 1996
A high-level delegation of 15 Uzbek government officials has arrived in Washington, D. C. and will remain through December 21. "These officials will meet with U. S. Government officials, major international law firms, and other senior-level individuals for briefings on key issues of international law and foreign investment.," announced Washington, D. C. attorney and President of Legal Technical Assistance Services (LTAS) Bruce A. Reznik.
Headquartered in Washington, D. C., LTAS has been involved in technical training for law reform in the former Soviet Union, Central and Eastern Europe and elsewhere since 1991. It was selected by the New Independent States Exchanges and Training (NET) Project of the Academy for Educational Development to provide the technical training component for this project. Logistical services are being provided by International Resources Company of Arlington, Virginia.
"The Republic of Uzbekistan had indicated a willingness to move toward market reform, as its President, Islam Karimov, indicated during his visit to the United States earlier this year," stated Reznik. "This U. S. AID-funded program is designed to help Uzbekistan9s transformation from communism to capitalism, and to increase the markets for U. S. corporations abroad. Uzbekistan boasts a literacy rate of 99%, has a highly-trained work force, and substantial mineral resources which promise a vibrant economy for the coming, 21st century." The 15 delegates represent several ministries and other government agencies including the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance, the State Tax Committee, and the Foreign Investment Agency of Uzbekistan.
Delegation members will also meet with members of the international business community interested in foreign investment and trade relations with Uzbekistan and Central Asia. Receptions for this delegation include one organized by The American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, as well as those sponsored by LTAS President Reznik and the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Interested members of the media, government, and private sector are welcomed to telephone the above contact to arrange for possible meetings and additional information.
