"Economic change in Japan today has led to the emergence of exciting
technological and social trends as well as new business models"
noted Nobuharu Ono, President of NTT DoCoMo USA, Inc. "In NTT DoCoMo's
case this includes the birth of i-mode mobile messaging service,
which has revolutionized Japan's telecommunications market and provided
a profitable business application that we are now introducing outside
Japan."
"The
U.S. economic miracle of the 1990s was largely driven by the extraordinary
growth of the small business sector and we will need to see a similar
shift toward small business development in Japan," commented author
and journalist Richard Katz, Senior Editor of Toyo Keizai's Oriental
Economist Report. "The regulatory infrastructure is largely in place
and accompanied by Japan's increasing openness to foreign direct
investment, which has increased over 350% over the last four years.
This is leading to many potentially interesting opportunities for
U.S. corporate and portfolio investors."
