This Week at Columbia University WLF: Bolivian President to be Joined by Native American Dancers; Also Croatia, Ecology and Southeast Asia Events

New York, New York - Sept. 19, 2006 - Bolivian President Evo Morales, the first Bolivian indigenous head of state in more than 500 years, will speak at Columbia University’s World Leaders Forum on Thursday, September 21. At President Morales’ invitation, his speech will be preceded by a performance by the SilverCloud Singers, an intertribal Native American singing and dance troupe weaving the traditional with the contemporary of Native song and dance.

President Morales’ address will be followed by a question- and-answer session moderated by Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger.

The event will take place at Miller Theatre, 2960 Broadway (at 116th Street) 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

SilverCloud has been honored to perform at the commemoration ceremonies for the Year of the Indigenous People at the United Nations, the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, The Public Theater, The Apollo, Roseland, the Theater at Madison Square Garden, Trinity Church, The American Museum of Natural History, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and the American Indian College Fund Flame of Hope Gala. SilverCloud was also proud to open for Midnight Oil and Joan Osborne at the Ritz as part of Earth Day celebrations held in Los Angeles and New York City in March 1993.

Aisi, Ambassador of Papua New Guinea to the United Nations and Don Jay Melnick, Executive Director, The Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC) and Columbia University’s Thomas Hunt Morgan Professor of Conservation Biology.

A panel of women world leaders from Iraq, Ireland, Nigeria, Canada, Pakistan, Jordan, Chile and Honduras will discuss the policy changes needed to achieve a more secure world. The panel will feature Mary Robinson, former U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, former President of Ireland, and Columbia University Professor in the Professional Practice of Public Affairs; Kim Campbell, former Prime Minister and Minister of Defense from Canada, among others. Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan and President Michelle Bachelet of Chile will contribute video messages.
